15 Oct Style Talk with Anya Hindmarch at LFW
Meeting Anya Hindmarch was the absolute highlight of my day at the Saachi Gallery for London Fashion Week. She has a passion for craftsmanship and an incredibly inspiring work ethic. To hear how her business flourished was just inspirational. It all started with a trip to Italy and a love of accessories, she followed her passion and it was the key to her success.
After setting up her business she soon started to feature in Harpers Baazar, Harrods, Selfridges and she was growing her business with the likes of Vivienne Westwood. She was passionate about creating a brand that was something different and she wanted this to be visible in everything that she did from Events, PR, Shop Decor etc.
In her own words she wanted ladies to think ‘I don’t need this but I just have to have it!’ Making an everyday handbag into a luxury for ladies that was also practical & stylish.
Founded in 1987, the Anya Hindmarch brand has become known for its unique blend of creativity and humour, coupled with a passion for craftsmanship and personalisation. The four annual collections are available from over 50 global stores – including flagships in London, New York and Tokyo – as well as anyahindmarch.com and select retail partners, including Colette, Barneys and Net-A-Porter.
In 2009, Anya Hindmarch was awarded an MBE in recognition for her contribution to the British fashion industry. As passionate advocate of British design and the arts, she is also a UK Trade Ambassador, Non-Executive Director of the British Fashion Council and Trustee of both The Royal Academy of Arts and The Design Museum. She was awarded the Veuve Clicquot and Harper’s Bazaar Business Woman of the Year Awards in 2012 and Accessory Designer of the Year at the 2014 British Fashion Awards.
